FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who should attend tryouts? While a certain amount of skill and athletic ability is necessary to play Advanced Team soccer, all players with a desire and a love of the game are encouraged to tryout. Even if a player is not selected for this year’s advanced team, he/she gains valuable experience and is encouraged to keep playing and keep improving and to definitely tryout out again next year. Those players who work the hard will eventually become the better players. New players join the program every year. All players must tryout each year (i.e. there are no ‘carryover’ players) to make a team. Players MUST attend at least one tryout (but are strongly encouraged to attend both) in order to be considered for a team.

What happens at tryouts? Players are assigned a numbered jersey and will participate in drills and small-sided games. Players are evaluated by the head coach and independent qualified, local soccer players and coaches who are not affiliated with the team. The tryouts are conducted to be as fair and impartial to all players as possible. Selection is based on the performances at the tryout sessions. All players attending tryouts should have and a light snack and some water 30 minutes before tryouts and provide their own water, soccer shoes and shin guards.

What age group should my player tryout for? SVSLV Soccer Club strongly encourages players to register and tryout for their BIRTH YEAR age groups. See Birth Year Matrix in “Advanced Teams” tab. If players would like to tryout for an older team they are welcome to, but we encourage you also attend your natural birth year tryouts as well. Requests to “play-up” an age bracket must be submitted to the Club Board of Directors for a formal review. Such requests are considered on a case by case basis. Should you wish your child to “play-up” an age bracket, please complete a Play Up Request Form and submit it with your child’s registration materials. Players may not play down an age bracket.

Each player is required to have a birth certificate on file with the league in order to complete your registration. If you are new to the SVSLV Soccer Club this year, please send in a birth certificate when you register. If you’ve played for the club before and receive an email after you register that requests a birth certificate and you fail to provide one, that player will not be placed on a team. Advance Team Refund Requests must be received by June 1st and a $35 processing fee will be withheld.
