If you participated in Club tryouts, here’s an update.
My Child Participated in the Tryouts – What’s Next? If your child participated in tryouts, he or she is part of the process for establishing our Comp Teams for Fall 2020 play. Coaches are currently reviewing tryout evaluations and have the difficult decision of deciding which players demonstrated the necessary ability and skill to make their team.
How the Process Works? We try to make player selection objective and, consequently, the selection process includes evaluations from independent tryout facilitators. This is a very difficult task when there is a large pool of deserving players. Coaches will contact all participants by email / phone or both to let players know their status.
What if My Player Makes The Team? The coach will inform you of the next steps in the process. This is a good time to ask questions about team expectations and finances. Families have at least 48 hours to accept an offer. If not accepted, the coach can offer the spot to another player. Fees include $230 for registration, $150 for uniforms, and $100-200 team fee. If the team has a professional trainer, fees will be more and your coach can provide you with information.
What if My Player Tried Out for Multiple Teams? If an age group has more than one team, a player may receive multiple offers. It is the players’ choice which team they join regardless of prior team affiliation. If the player makes and wants to play with an ‘older’ team, parents will complete the “Play Up Request” form as part of registration. The Board of Directors approves such ‘playing up’ requests on a case-by-case basis. Players can only accept an offer from one SV/SLV Soccer Club team.
What if My Player Does Not Make The Team? Teams have limited roster sizes. Coaches have difficult decisions, based on one or two tryout sessions. Often, players are separated by a single evaluation point (one may make the team and one may not). Nevertheless, coaches need to name a final team roster where player evaluations are sometimes very close.
If your player does not make the team this year, encourage your child to continue playing soccer and developing his or her skills. Even if your player does not make the team this year, there will be opportunities next year to tryout again. Our Recreation soccer program is a fantastic program to continue playing and developing skills.
When Will We Be Notified? We ask coaches to communicate with parents and players by March 7th. This may include a brief email providing a status update.
What if I Am Not Contacted? If you are not contacted by a coach by March 10th, please email email@example.com and we connect you with the coach to find out your player’s status.
